The Bluebonnet is a species of the Lupine flower, growing in the southern states due to its affinity for a warmer climate and slightly different growing season.
They were coined the “bluebonnet” because of the likeness their bulbs had to the bonnets of the pioneer women.
I grew up playing in the bluebonnet fields in Texas, and I must they they are a beautiful sight to behold in a field under the big Texas sky.
